Bleeding Heart Wine was born from a shared passion in the wines and vineyards of South Australia. The ancient soils and moderate climate create rich and full bodied wines that are incredibly satisfying. Few that experience the lifestyle of food and wine or the beautiful landscape could argue that it is not better a bleeding heart than none at all. Vineyards: Sourced from a combination of established, dry-grown vineyards in central South Australia and low-yielding McLaren Vale vineyards. Wines are made and matured by Jim Zerella in McLaren Vale. Winemaking: Fruit is chilled before de-stemming and a cold soak for three days. Each parcel is fermented separately with the McLaren Vale Shiraz fermented in small open two tonne vessels before maturation in two to four year old oak barrels for six months. The Big Rivers component is fermented and matured in stainless steel before blending. 2014 Vintage: 2014 can be characterised by tiny yields, unsettled weather and very good wine. A cold start to Spring disrupted flowering and significantly reduced yields. As is often the case, the weather flipped with two heatwaves and then heavy rains – however the small berries and bunches handled the conditions before relatively benign Autumn conditions. The result crop was for many the smallest on record but the fruit is outstanding - balanced and intensely flavoured. Tasting Note: A bright and inviting nose highlighting varietal blackberry and currant aromas, a hint of bramble and savour oak. Typical of McLaren Vale’s opulent take on Cabernet, the palate is full of dark berries and ripe plums before an impressively long finish given definition by fine tannins. An excellent combination of easy going approachability and Cabernet Sauvignon definition and structure.

The Doctors' Grüner Veltliner Profile Grüner Veltliner (Pronounced Grew-ner Velt-lee-ner) is Austria's signature white grape varietal and is grown in most of its wine regions. It produces wine styles ranging from dry and minerally on steep rocky hillside sites to aromatic and rich wines from deeper loess soils. The flavour profile can range through grapefruit, ripe citrus, white pepper, stone fruit, herbs and honey. We have planted our Grüner Veltliner on our Condors Bend vineyard in the centre of the Wairau Valley. These soils are classic Marlborough, free draining soils: silty/stony riverbed derived. This variety can be vigorous and needs careful tending to avoid excess crop levels; diligent shoot removal, crop thinning and leaf plucking help maintain vine balance.
