John Forrest Collection Bannockburn Pinot Noir Profile Nestled close to the town of Cromwell is the tortured, yet beautiful landscape of Bannockburn 'Heart of the Dessert'; created by miners in their sluicing for gold in the 19th century. Here vineyards are made up of glacial loess deposits, mixed by miners, overlaying river gravels. Our vineyard, situated on north-facing terraces at the head of the Bannockburn inlet of Lake Dunston, has a special micro climate that allows natural protection from both frosts and cold southerly winds and hence permits extra ripening from the late autumn sun. Bannockburn's natural advantages, not to mention natural beauty, make it the most sought after grape growing region in Otago; consistently producing Pinot Noir that excites and amazes the world of fine wine. I count myself fortunate to have such unique terroir. Tasting Notes The grapes for this Pinot Noir come from our Bannockburn vineyard; hand picked and crafted only on the best vintages. Deep crimson-purple, coloured together with a concentrated bouquet of brambly fruit, black cherry and plum flavours; hints of violets and wild thyme. Alluring on the palate, where black cherry aromas are intermingled with spicy, toasty oak. Excellent balance, focused acidity, harmonious alcohol, full rounded and weighty with persistent fine grain tannins on the long finish.
