Golden yellow in the glass, this Waipara Chardonnay is full-bodied and intensely flavoured. It has an elegant bouquet of oak spice, fruit aromas of citrus and stone fruit and subtle lees influence. Dry on the palate with textures of spice and acidity, oak and fruit concentration. The grapes for this Chardonnay were sourced from a single vineyard grown on the Glasnevin Gavels, North Canterbury. The vines were carefully hand-pruned and fruit hand-picked in mid-April after a warm, dry growing season. The fruit attained optimum ripeness in the dry Autumn weather. Seed lignification and skin ripeness gives the wine a full-bodied fruit-filled balanced palate.
Oyster Bay Marlborough Chardonnay truly captures the character of Marlborough with pure, incisive, ripe fruit flavours. A combination of barrel and tank fermentation and the stirring of lees on oak, achieves maximum softness and integration. To retain all the natural assertiveness and flavour, no malolactic fermentation takes place. Clonal influences in the vineyard have been very important, providing smaller berries and enhanced flavour intensity. The result of all of this is a delicious Oyster Bay Marlborough Chardonnay with concentrated aromas and flavours of ripe citrus and stonefruit, balanced with subtle oak, and a creamy texture to finish
This lightly oaked chardonnay possesses a ripe and generous bouquet of summer stonefruit, florals, and lemon curd. The palate has nectarine, peach, and grilled pineapple flavours. These are complimented by a hint of spicy vanilla oak and creamy butterscotch. The texture is smooth and silky, with a nice line of acidity to keep the wine focused and in balance. ABV: 13%
A vibrant straw colour with intense aromas of citrus & floral notes, hints of toast & creamy butterscotch, salted caramel, ginger & spice. A bright acidity adds freshness with a lingering finish. ABV: 12.5%
The wine shows a complex interplay of aromas and flavours. There are the primary elements derived from the fruit, suggesting lemons, limes, green-gages and peaches. These are intertwined with whiffs of wood smoke, barbequed sweet corn and grilled bacon. It has a soft palate entry but then gradually seems to expand in the mouth to become rich and full bodied. A back-bone of minerality and grapefruit-like acidity keep it tight knit and focused, drawing out its length. While ready to drink on release it should develop a range of additional nuances with careful cellaring.
